A gardener’s paradise in Woodinville

  • Posted on May 24, 2010 at 4:59 pm

As Master Gardeners, Gail and I decided a trip to Woodinville was in order.  Our destination:  Molbaks, an extraordinary garden store and nursery. Besides the usual good things about traveling by bus, (gas and parking costs, I-5 anxiety, etc)  we wouldn’t be tempted to buy too many plants and other garden goodies!

We decided to drive to the Lakewood station (Exit 125/Bridgeport Way) in order to give us more time options for our return trip.  Taking the 10:33 am Sound Transit 594 took us to downtown Seattle (4th and Union) by 11:55.  Gail used her ORCA card for the first time.  The ORCA card is so convenient… no digging up the correct cash and/or coins, and the card reader tells you the cash balance remaining on your card.  The ORCA card is the ONLY payment method that recognizes “transfers” if you ride more than one bus.  www.ORCAcard.com A gardener’s paradise in Woodinville- continue reading

Twanoh State Park on Hood Canal

When Mary and Gail told me about their Rebels-By-Bus trips, I decided to try a trip of my own. It seemed to me a day at Twanoh State Park on Hood Canal would be a good start for an apprentice rebel.

Twanoh State Park

Although the day was overcast, it was pleasant to be out and about. The park is divided by Hwy 106. The beach side features a swimming beach, a wading pool, oyster gathering, clamming in season, fishing, a boat launch, picnic areas and tennis courts. The park buildings, including snack bar, restrooms, kitchens and bathhouse, all date from the 1930s. They were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC); a stimulus program from the Great Depression. They’re worth examining—real pieces of our economic history. Among the trees, Evergreen Huckleberries showed off bronze new growth and white blossoms. The grass was dotted with yellow and white flowers. Twanoh State Park on Hood Canal- continue reading

My oh My… Mariners baseball by bus

This past weekend, my friend Anne and I went to a Mariners Sunday afternoon game.  Needless to say, we took the bus.

I’ve been taking the bus to Mariners game for the past few years… it’s the ONLY way to go (unless you take the Sounder… more on that later).  A friend recently told me that the parking garage next to Safeco field costs $40.  Wow.
